In the city of Senec, they reduced the generation of mixed municipal waste by 40% in four years. And this is despite population growth. City officials attribute the success mainly to ESONA’s electronic bin registration and a new system that motivates people to sort waste.

What have they been doing differently in the city in recent years? And how did that translate into waste charges? We asked Jarmila Répássyová, head of the Senec Municipal Office, and Ivica Gajdošová, waste management officer.
