Municipalities can correct fees for waste based on the obtained data on landfills, explains in an interview the business manager of the Žilina company MIM, which has developed its own system for recording and effective monitoring of waste containers.

Cross-subsidization of waste management in cities and municipalities is a common practice, municipalities transfer funds from other sectors to waste, says Monika Kocáková from the MIM company. According to her, the key to more efficient waste management is data that the municipality can use in relation to citizens and the collection company.

Municipalities are clearly looking for ways to stabilize their waste management costs. In the case of collection companies, the optimization of their operation is a big motivation, especially in this period of rising fuel prices.

At the same time, it should not be forgotten that the increased costs of waste collection and collection are logically passed on to the cities and towns for which these services are performed, which is ultimately felt by the taxpayer, i.e. the citizen.
There are several factors that increase the cost of waste management. It is really necessary for the municipality to set up the operation process of its waste management more efficiently.

This brings us to your work. Let’s break it down into small change. How specifically can waste management be made more efficient in a city or village?

Correct and high-quality data are the key to making the right decisions. This applies in all areas and waste is no exception.
Thanks to the ESONA system, municipalities will receive data on all waste containers and all landfills. In practice, the point is that garbage containers are marked with tags with RFID chips, which are monitored and registered in the ESONA system during dumping.

The obtained data can subsequently be used by municipalities, for example, when setting waste fees, which may depend on the number of dumps. They can thus better motivate citizens to sort waste, which ultimately means less mixed municipal waste and lower costs for the municipality.
