Collection of biodegradable municipal waste or composting in the household?
Biodegradable waste is becoming an increasing problem in cities and towns. It takes up a large proportion of the waste that ends up in landfills, without necessarily. This year, even cities and municipalities that have relied on the exception of the complex collection have to sort such waste. So how do you set effective rules and cost-effective selection? Can composting be the way to go?
Composter as part of the garden
Family houses have good experience with composting biodegradable waste, mainly due to the possibility of converting such waste into a growing medium for the garden.
It is a simple technology that reduces waste production, helps save on waste collection costs, and brings benefits to the garden. Composting converts biological waste into organic fertilizer. All this through natural processes, at the end of which is the growing substrate.
Properly chosen form of composting can bring significant financial savings to the municipality and its residents, and it will solve several problems:
- It will reduce the amount of waste in landfills and incinerators
- Reduce waste collection and collection costs
- It will ensure that the local waste fee is not increased
- It will help you get quality fertilizer that you don’t have to buy
Composting is not complicated
Due to the types of composting, it can be divided into two basic forms.
- Composting on piles
- Composting in boxes
The composting system means that ordinary kitchen waste, garden waste, and biological breeding waste are collected on a pile or in a composting container. At the beginning, you add composting ingredients, or worms, for example, in the case of vermicompost, and nature itself will take care of the rest. The compost will be ready in 6-12 months. Municipalities should therefore motivate residents to compost. And where it is not possible, for example in prefabricated blocks, to provide them with the possibility of transparent and efficient collection of bio-waste.
ESONA as an effective solution for BW
If it is not possible to apply composting, it is appropriate to apply the effective collection and registration and disposal of biodegradable waste in order for order in waste. This makes it possible to use the general or the nearest composting site more efficiently and save money on the operation of the landfill. The modern ESONA system also makes it possible to accurately record the collection of biodegradable kitchen waste (BW) and edible oils and fats (EOF). Thanks to this, waste sorting in the municipality and the city will be more clear, transparent, and efficient.
Instead of a higher price, the fee is reduced
Currently, even cities for which the collection of bio-waste has been problematic can no longer apply an exception to its collection. This was reflected in the cost of waste collection in housing estates. Which means an increase in waste fees.
However, it is also different. ESONA provides accurate records and management of how specific homes and communities sort waste.
Waste and its collection are recorded at the time of collection by scanning a QR code with a unique mobile application. The results show that the introduction of the collection of kitchen waste and oils and accurate records thanks to the ESONA system has brought local governments significant year-on-year cost savings in the form of reducing the volume of municipal waste. The combination of the separation of kitchen waste, as well as biowaste from gardens, reduces the production of mixed municipal waste by up to 45%.
Export cars bring tons of mixed municipal waste less to ordinary landfills. This has a positive effect on lower costs and the load of the landfill.
